Marketing & Communications Officer, Wakefield, West Yorkshire

We are looking for an ambitious Marketing and Communications Officer to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The successful applicant will support the communications team in making sure that our work and its impact are seen, understood and appreciated by our commissioners, clients and stakeholders.

That means working closely with colleagues and external partners to find, present and share our news across all channels of communication from social media to events. As well as sourcing and producing engaging content, you’ll have the opportunity to liaise with regional, national and trade media to secure positive media coverage that raises the profile of what we do in the best possible light.

Role Details

  • Support the development and implementation of an overarching communications plan, and coordinate campaigns, tools and channels to support the organisation in achieving its objectives.
  • Liaise with marketing and communication teams in partner organisations to ensure the AHSN’s messages reach an NHS based audience and other stakeholders.
  • Deputise where necessary for the Communications Manager.


  • Develop and manage content for a range of communications and engagement channels including - Websites; Social media channels; E-Newsletters; Events; Case studies (both written and video) Blogs, vlogs and podcasts; Corporate publications including the annual Business Plan; Impact Report, and other information materials; Brochureware and presentation materials
  • Build relationships throughout the organisation to enable the proactive development and delivery of communications and engagement activity.
  • Manage the day-to-day running of our social media channels; responding to posts, sharing partner news, and creating engaging content that supports our communications outputs.
  • Produce the monthly corporate newsletter to promote our work to our stakeholders
  • Pitch stories and thought-leadership opportunities to media and develop relationships with key journalists to secure media coverage for the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain content for our website; writing and uploading web articles and blogs, creating case studies, updating events pages and supporting the promotion of job vacancies.
  • Monitor, analyse and record coverage of our content via the media, partner newsletters, publications and websites.
  • Assist with the promotion and delivery of events
  • Manage the central email inbox; cascading information/requests to the relevant staff member/teams within the organisation.
  • Support programme teams in the development and implementation of communications and engagement activity.


  • You will have experience in planning, creating, and delivering successful communications and media activities that align with strategic objectives and the ability to seek out proactive opportunities to promote the organisation to a range of audiences.
  • You will have a good understanding of (and interest in) current affairs relating to the health and life sciences sector as well as the wider news agenda and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.


  • Proficiency in the use of multiple marketing and communication channels and content creation tools, including social media, digital media, web and print, is essential.
